Holders England flex all-round game to down West Indies Alberta

Defending champions England signalled their credentials for a third title with a dominant display in St Lucia, where they downed fellow two-time winners West Indies by eight wickets in the teams' first Super 8 contest. Jos Buttler's side first restricted a power-packed line-up to 180 on the tournament's best batting surface so far and then mowed down that score with 15 balls to spare courtesy a blazing knock from Phil Salt, who continued to enjoy batting in and against the West Indies. After scoring two tons in a five-match series late last year, Salt finished with an unbeaten 87 tonight, an assault that also included a 30-run takedown of a Romario Shepherd over.

But having got to 137 after 15 overs, they just about tumbled to 180. England produced three boundary-less overs in this phase with Adil Rashid and Jofra Archer bagging the big wickets of Nicholas Pooran and Andre Russell, denying West Indies of their biggest hitters in this phase.
